Dis-Chem Life Terms and Conditions
By submitting this application, I, the undersigned applicant, hereby voluntarily and unconditionally provide Dis-Chem Life (Pty) Ltd (“Dis-Chem Life”) with my informed and explicit consent to collect, use, and process my personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, No. 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) and its associated regulations.
I acknowledge that this consent is required in order to allow Dis-Chem Life to assess my application for review and consideration in relation to potential appointment and that such processing does not in any way constitute a guarantee offer of employment or contract.
1. Purpose and Lawful Basis for Processing
Dis-Chem Life may collect and process my personal information for lawful purposes, including the following:
1.1. Recruitment, whether as an employee or independent contractor and appointment consideration, including but not limited to:
• assessing my application for potential employment or contract opportunities;
• verifying my qualifications, credentials, and employment history;
• conducting background screening (including but not limited to criminal, credit, sanction screening and fraud checks);
• recording and maintaining accurate applicant data for decision-making;
• communicating with me regarding the status of my application;
1.2. Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to:
• employment equity and transformation initiatives;
• occupational health and safety regulations;
• anti-money laundering and terrorist financing regulations;
• tax, immigration, or other employment-related legislation.
1.3. Protection of legitimate interests, including:
• ensuring the integrity and security of Dis-Chem Life’s recruitment process;
• preventing misconduct, fraud, or reputational risk;
• responding to lawful third-party requests or audits;
1.4. Pre-Contractual obligations, including:
• evaluating my suitability for potential appointment as an employee or independent contractor;
• communicating with me about possible roles, assessments, or next steps;
• documenting the recruitment process for internal governance.
2. Nature of Processing
Processing means any operation or activity or any set of operations, whether or not by automatic means, concerning personal information, including—
(a) the collection, receipt, recording, organisation, collation, storage, updating or modification, retrieval, alteration, consultation or use;
(b) dissemination by means of transmission, distribution or making available in any other form; or
(c) merging, linking, as well as restriction, degradation, erasure or destruction of information;

I, the applicant, understand that Dis-Chem Life may process the following categories of personal information (this list may be amended from time to time as necessary):
• Full name and surname
• ID/passport number
• Contact details (phone, email, address)
• Curriculum Vitae / résumé
• Employment history and qualifications
• Race, gender, or disability status (where required by the Employment Equity Act)
• References and referee contact details
• Driver’s licence, certificates, or registrations
• Criminal, credit, sanction screening or fraud-related checks
• Information obtained during interviews, assessments, or application processes
4. Source of Information
Dis-Chem Life may collect this information:
• directly from me, the applicant;
• from referees, previous employers, institutions, or recruiters;
• from public or commercially available sources;
• through lawful service providers conducting background checks.
5. Warranties and Accuracy
I warrant that all personal information submitted to Dis-Chem Life is accurate, up-to-date, and not misleading. I understand that:
• misrepresentation may result in disqualification from consideration, termination of employment or contract termination if discovered post-appointment;
• I have secured any third-party consents required to share referee or related information.
6. Retention and Future Consideration
6.1. I acknowledge that Dis-Chem Life may retain my personal information in its applicant database for:
• reasonable periods to consider me for future employment, contracting or project opportunities;
• legal or regulatory recordkeeping obligations;
• internal analytics, equity reporting, or process auditing.
6.2. If I no longer wish for my information to be retained, I may request deletion at any time by emailing
[email protected], subject to any applicable legal retention requirements.
7. Consent Withdrawal
I understand that:
• withdrawal of consent may limit or prevent Dis-Chem Life from processing my application further;
• withdrawal will not affect any processing that took place lawfully before withdrawal.
8. Security and Confidentiality
Dis-Chem Life undertakes to:
• process all personal information in compliance with POPIA and its regulations;
• apply appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to help protect my information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, or disclosure.
9. Cross-Border Transfers
Where applicable, I consent to the transfer of my personal information across South African borders, including the European Union, Great Britain, Australia and the United States for further processing and storage, in adherence with the requirements in section 72 of POPIA. provided that the destination country has privacy protection laws similar to South Africa.
10. Data Subject Rights and Contact Information
• request access to my information;
• correct or update inaccurate records;
• object to unlawful processing;
• lodge a complaint if I believe my rights have been violated.
Final Declaration
By submitting my application, I confirm that I have read and understood these terms and conditions and that I provide Dis-Chem Life with lawful and explicit consent to process my personal information for the purposes described in these terms and conditions, all without any obligation to appoint, offer employment or offer to contract.
